My wife, kids and I headed on down to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee/North Carolina last week. Stopped by Mammoth Cave National Park on the way back in Kentucky. I didn’t concentrate much on photography at all except family photos. No internet, phones, FB or Twitter was nice as well. Here are [...]

Hot start to CARFAX NASCAR weekend at MIS

I’m shooting the CARFAX250 & CARFAX400 NASCAR races this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. I went out to pick up my credentials today because I just wanted to get out of the house and away from the computer. I checked out the awesome new media center and some shooting locations for the weekend. I decided [...]

Weekend Camping Trip

Weekend Camping Trip

Spent the weekend camping on Lake Michigan with my wife and kids. Kids had a blast and it was actually quite relaxing. Can’t beat sleeping on the beach. I don’t shoot a ton of photos when we camp as I sometimes really need to get away from the camera and technology. I still manage to [...]

And the winner of the photog shoot-out is…

Douglas Wojciechowski
Douglas won in a landslide, photo D. I even voted for it. Check out more of his sweet images here. I love how he lights things. His photo looks like it was a blast to do. Bonus on the headband! My photograph of my son Max playing rock star was 2nd (photo B). [...]

Photog Shoot-out.

Photog Shoot-out.

Atlanta photographer Zack Arias (Mr one-light workshop himself) and his staff  do something they call a GOYA (Get Off Your Ass… And shoot!) shootout.  They choose a challenge, everyone goes out and makes a photo and they post the images online for blog readers to vote on. (see their latest here). So I thought it [...]

Its great to be a photographer

I first posted this 3 years ago and was going through old blog posts and photos and felt it was worth riposting.  The business side of photography can get me down sometimes and this slow time of the year at the end of winter always seems to have me in a rut. But, I love [...]

Snapfish.com Helps Make-A-Wish!

I don’t use Snapfish for my printing, oh wait, I have had some family photos printed by them and they look decent. I have never had a book printed by them but as a supporter of Make-A-Wish I think I might have some books made for family, the grandmas love them.

Sled Jumping

Sled Jumping

Today was a snow day for my kids with most schools in metro Detroit closed. Both my photo assignments were canceled so between doing a little bit of work we played in the snow. They love it when I build snow jumps in the yard to pull them over. Then they wanted to do “night [...]

Playing with light - Portraits of Evelyn

Playing with light – Portraits of Evelyn

Just a few photographs from Mondays photo shoot with Evelyn. I’m photographing her wedding later this year and asked her if she wanted to pose for some portraits so I could play around with light some. I liked these where the light is based on and similar to the old style “Hollywood” lighting from the [...]

The X games are here starting today in Colorado so I thought I’d post these snow-cross photographs. Back in 2003, 04 and 05 I photographed quite a bit of SnowX  racing here in Michigan. Local races mostly but in 05 the pro series came to Michigan out at MIS where I took the shot above [...]
